Persistent Bad Breath As Result of Poor Oral Hygiene

Persistent bad breath is something that majority of people suffer at some point in their life. One of the most common causes is poor oral hygiene as well as buildup of bacteria in the mouth. Another cause of halitosis is problems with the stomach or airways.
Bad breath can affect even people who maintain good oral hygiene. People should find out the underlying cause of the problem. Persistent bad breath can be an indicator of gum disease and it can only be resolved by visiting the dentist for a checkup, especially if you haven’t had one in the last six months.
If the dentist ruled out oral health is the problem, the next step is to visit a general practitioner. A medical problem might be the cause of the bad breath. The general practitioner can do some tests to find out the cause of bad breath.
Most of the time persistent halitosis is caused by a species of fungus known as candida albicans that can grow in internal organs of the digestive system. Medical conditions can also lead to bad breath, such as diabetes, kidney and liver problems, and infections of the nose, lungs, or throat.
People can prevent getting bad breath by eating a balance diet that includes fresh vegetables and fruits as well as drinking lots of fluids. You should also avoid drinking too much coffee and alcohol. Drinking plenty of water can also help.
Brushing twice a day can help remove plaque and food debris. People should brush after eating. Most people forget to brush the tongue. The toothbrush must be replaced every two to three months. In order to remove food particles and plaque between teeth, use floss once a day. If you are wearing dentures, remove it at night and cleaned it before placing them in your mouth the next day.
