Rock Hill to Host a Free Dental Clinic in August

The SC Dental Association is hosting the Dental Access Days on August 8 and 9. This will bring thousands of residents from Chester, York, and Lancaster counties to converge in Rock Hill to receive free dental care.
Dentists, surgeons, dental hygienists, and X-ray technicians will attend to more than two thousand patients within 18 hours for free. Dr. Bill Cranford and Dr. Paul Coombs are part of the local delegation who volunteered to bring their services to Rock Hill for the free dental days. The volunteer dentists will provide over $1 million in services.
It is the aim of volunteer members of the SC Dental Association to provide dental care to those who can’t afford it in South Carolina. It is common for adult residents to suffer from severe pain and discomfort. They were left untreated because they can’t afford dental care.
In previous Dental Access Days, the dental services took place in major arenas and convention centers but York County doesn’t have one. The organizers opted to hold the service at the First Baptist Church in Rock Hill. They will use the church’s classroom spaces, gymnasium, and Worship Center.
Dale Dove, an attorney and founder of the Renew Our Community Center, stated they looked Rock Hill didn’t have something as big as the Winthrop Coliseum or the Baxter Hood Center. Dove headed the committee of recruiting local volunteers for the two day event. The volunteers under Dove will serve in non-medical tasks.
Patients will be triaged into groups of 50 people. They will have their blood pressure taken and their mouth X-rayed. There are 80 dental chairs at the Worship Center floor where treatments will be made. Some of the dentists travel overseas to conduct dental missions. The Dental Access Days provides a way for American dentists to give back to Americans.
